the investigation into an unusual case of vandalism. it involved a building on twin peaks in san francisco. and tara moriarty says it had the potential to cripple much of san francisco's emergency communications system. tara. >> reporter: this radio hub is in a very public place. anyone can walk, bike, and drive up here. it illustrates the point it has vulnerable. why would someone want to break into the perimeter. it happened yesterday morning around 9:00 when city workers discovered that vandals had cut a hole into a chain link fence and slipped inside. they didn't make it into the building but they were able to cut exposed cables possibly connecting air conditioning. >> nothing was stolen. none of the wiring was pulled out and stolen. right now it's being treated as a vandalism. >> reporter: san francisco police and fire as well as emergency services rely on radio transmissions from twin peaks. none were interrupted but the fbi was notified because this communications facility is so crucial. right now officials are using surveillance footage to see if it provides clues to who did this. >>> new th

'd be talking about rain here as it stands. for us, it's been drizzle and a lot of it. twin peaks picked up .07. you can call it light rain. diamond heights .05 and the mission .04. eureka valley, golden gate heights, castro, all at .04. that's a pretty measurable amount. even inland locations are getting some misty conditions. i saw that on tori campbell's tweet this morning, some misty conditions coming in. today will be the coolest day by far. it started yesterday and will bottom out today. wind will pick up later once this low cloud deck burns out. it goes out to the back 40. there will be 70s here and the forecast model has climatology built into it. there will not be any 80s. this is a really cool pattern. fort bragg, yes, right on the cusp there of probably getting afternoon shower activity. 50s and right at 60, the lows are just stuck. everybody's cloudy or mostly cloudy. there it is, that low, and might dip a little bit toward cave menacino. as it stands, low clouds, some sun, a windy day again. heavy duty drizzle will give way to temperatures way below average. 50s and 60s for many, e

into the communications facility on twin peaks and cut several wires this morning. police say none of the wiring was stolen. and that the vandalism did not impact any essential city services. but there are reports that some of the city's police and fire stations are dispatched from that facility. and since it is part of the city's radio network, the fbi was notified as well. so anybody with information on this case of vandalism is asked to call the police department's anonymous tip line at this number. you can also text a tip -- a tip, 411, with a message starting sfpd. >>> happening right now, firefighters from the bay area helping crews fight this wildfire burning in placer county near the town of forest hill and colfax. the fire has burned 20 acres so far, and officials say it is 30% contained. one home has been destroyed, another 100 strengthed. 11 firefighters have been injured as well. nbc has more on the fire, and how it affects the amount of fire coverage we have here in the bay area. >> reporter: diane, for a few months firefighters warned about dry conditions throughout the bay area. t
